Designs for clients
The last couple of years I’ve made a good amount of designs both for my own business and for clients. These products range from stickers, flags, clothing to automotive accessories.
The process of designing for a client: To start off the project I ask the client what style they want for the design, what the design will be applied to and what their budget is. I will then gather reference photos and make a sketch to show the client my ideas for the project. I will then refine the sketch based on the clients feedback before starting on the final design. If certain elements like color schemes need to be discussed the client will receive updates throughout the project but most of the time the client will only see the design once it’s closed to finished. This is to streamline the design process and to save time instead of making multiple iterations of each step of the design process waiting for feedback from the client.
Clothing
The case: Clothing designs made for my own brand.
The design: Throughout the years I’ve made and released multiple clothing designs for my brand Lardel. The brand takes inspiration from the Japanese car scene and automotive world as a whole and this continues through the clothing designs. Wanting to open up the brand to new customers outside of the car scene the designs are often fused with som streetwear influences as well, often shown with the fonts, color choices and layouts.
Automotive accessories
The product: Other than stickers, flags and clothing Lardel also supplies car accessories via the sub brand VTS.
The design: Each type of accessory comes with their own unique shapes and design limitations wether it is making sure that the design doesn’t become to brittle, that the design is still intact even on small applications or that the design is not too complex for the machining processes.
Flags
The product: the 180x60cm “nobori” flags have ben used for marketing in Japan for a long time and has become synonymous with the japanese car culture.
The design: Making a design for a flag a little bit different than making a design for a sticker. Stickers need to have bigger text and elements that are still visible after print on a small scale. Flags still need to have clear elements that are visible from a distance but the text generally needs to be smaller to look correctly scaled to the bigger product.
