BN Blister S13 - Machine Check
You have most likely seen a BN Sports bodykit before. The aggressive, “OG” hotboi bodykit that’s available and has been replicated to a wide range of vehicles. Well did you know that there is an even more aggressive version of the BN kit?
The Blister kit came to a few vehicled. The Supra, RX7 FC and FD, S13 hatchback and coupé, S14 and S15. For the S13 hatchback the design was based on the BN Sports Type 3 bodykit, however all parts of the kit has been widened.
Most widebody kits try to mimic the original shape of the fender and just push the wheel arch out a couple of millimeters and stay fairly low key. Well the Blister kit widens the fenders a bunch and does not care to hide that fact one bit. With how wide the cars become it would’ve looked very “bubbly” if the fender shrunk to the original size before reaching the rear of the car, so BN decided to just keep the width going and widening the rear end too.
This car of course caught my eye at the Makos Matsuri I visited in Finland this summer, and I couldn’t really believe my eyes when I first saw it. Not only is it a kit that’s very rarely seen in general, but it was equipped with Garson Ryugi wheels just like the 180sx that BN used to showcase the bodykit with had back in the early 2000’s. Even though the wheels and the kit goes hand in hand this car was equipped with them long before it got the Blister bodykit.
Well it obviously looks very cool, but how does it perform going sideways on the track (or street…)?
Well the original CA18DET has been swapped for a built SR20DET with forged internals and a Holset HX35 turbo, all powered by a Maxxecu. It makes 420hp and has been going strong for the past 5 years without any major issues.
Following a great combo of style and form is the interior which for sure has some personality. Gauges that will tell you all that you need to know, stickers and a bunch of other goodies, some of which has been collected throughout some of the owner’s trips to Japan.
Even though there is a lot going on the red theme from the exterior is still kept pretty well.
Some Sparco seats and Takata harnesses will keep you in place while getting thrown from side to side during the many hard entries this cars endures.
That the interior smells nice should come to now surprise as you have both the new Style First AND the old S13 air fresheners hanging in there.
This car is 7 years in the making and the owner’s personality is splattered all throughout the car which makes it even cooler.
The future plans for this car is a fresh paintjob and a livery and crossing all fingers and toes that the SR can handle a few more years of constant use.
I absolutely love this car and can’t wait to see it in person again next year.
