Straight from the 90’s - Machine Check.

It’s no secret that I have a softspot for tiny wheels and wangan spoilers. When I got my S13 my first plan was just that, but only managed to get some 16” Compomotives (which doesn’t really even count) before I decided to work towards the style that I have now. Anyhow, when the Yonaka page was just started and I was elbow deep into the 90’s style I was so amazed when I first saw Dahlstedt’s S13 and the fact that the car had swedish licenseplates.

Back then the car still had it’s original Cherry Red Pearl paintjob and a Type-X rear valence. Since then the car has been painted in Nissan 326 Crystal White (same color as Snask’s S13), the rear valence has been deleted and chuki sideskirts has been added. Other exterior pieces include a OEM pignose lip mounted to the chuki front and a B-Wave wangan spoiler.

Daniel’s wheels of choice are 15” SSR Formula Mesh up front and 15” SSR MK1’s in the rear (or his black pair of SSR Mesh’s or SSR MK2-R’s) wrapped in some Valino Greeva’s.

Though the 15”s looks great Daniel is keen to try 17”s in the rear next year to get some better grip on longer tracks such as Sturup.

No interior detail has been over looked. The empty din-slot usually houses a classic Kenwood DPX-660MD CD player, but due to some electrical issues Daniel removed it before going out on track. I did not manage to catch any HD photos of the stereo, but I did get some Handycam Yonaka-quality photos of it and the rest of the interior that’s posted at the bottom of the story.

The more you look the more Japan-inspired trinkets you find. A Nardi Classic steering wheel, Aqua-Claze shift knob, DEFI boost, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges, Greddy Profec boost controller, Shirtstuckedin head cushion with a Sabelt 4-point harness and some Tein and Totoro plushies are hanging from the Cusco 5 point cage.

If you’ve ever tried having fun in a 30-year old Nissan you know that OEM arms and bushings are not it chief. To any old enthusiast-car these are the parts that will transform your driving experience the most.
K-Sport coilovers with 11k springs in the front and 10k springs in the rear helps balance the car, together with a Hardrace anti-roll bar, Driftworks caster arms and B-Knuckles up front and aluminum subframe bushings, Driftworks toe and camber arms and bushings, Japspeed traction arms and a Voodoo13 eccentric lockout kit in the rear.

Wether the CA18DET is ”Gods engine” or not is a whole nother debate. But seeing a well executed CA build is truly fun and interesting.
A whole rainbow of colors with valve covers painted in Porsche Frozen Berry metallic is generally very pleasant to look at as when done right.

The full, very in depth spec list on this engine will be featured in a future blog post dedicated to different local CA setups. But a long and interesting list short this CA has been bored to 84mm and houses Carillo pistons and SPM piston rods and the head has been ported and with stiffer KL-Racing valve springs amongst many other details.
An equal length exhaust manifold connects the Garrett GT2976R turbo to the engine with an HKS pod filter and HKS intercooler keeping the air cool and clean.
This is followed by a custom 3” exhaust ending in a 4” Vibrant muffler.

The fuel setup contains 1000cc Deatchwerks injectors and a DW200 fuel pump, Nuke FPR100S fuel pressure regulator and Audi R8 coil packs.

This 98 octane setup is managed by a MaxxECU and produces 308hp at 1.0bar of boost and 361hp at 1.5bar. Daniel usually runs at 1.0bar but says that it’s nice to have more options depending on the track and layout.

Transferring the power from the engine to the rear wheels is an ACT 6-puck clutch, a chromoly flywheel, OEM 5 speed transmission and a welded OEM ABS differential with 4.6 gear ratio.

Needless to say that this is a very unique way to build a 200sx and a great showcase of a passion project done right.
Even though I’ve now switched from a 90’s to more of a 00’s look for my S13 the build quality and the level of detail on this car will always be a huge inspiration.

The Sony Handycam was put to work at this Sturup-event. VHS content of the event and raw runs from Daniel, Snask and Calle will be posted early 2023 on the Yonaka.jp medias.

I hope to be able to see this car in person more often during the 2023 season, and that this car will inspire more people to get into tiny wheels and wangan spoilers.
I truly enjoyed looking at every little detail on this machine and to hear Daniel explain his thought process with the build.

Thank you for checking out the post from start to finish and stay tuned for more way-over-due posts in the coming weeks.
