Ultrace 2024 - Event Coverage pt.2
I can appreciate the art and creativity behind brands like Liberty Walk, but as someone who’s more into the 90-00’s aesthetic their cars don’t always do it for me. Their new FD RX7 kit how ever does. I think the Porsche 935 inspired kit really flows well with the bodylines of the FD. Although I really like the kit it doesn’t beat a good old Re-Amemiya kit. 00’s forever.
Speaking of 00’s, Musk as done a great job mixing a clean, modern look with an extravagant flare of 2000’s tuning with his Supra. Lambo doors, a vented carbon fibre hood and a beautiful trunk setup displaying a matching subwoofer and amp setup really brought this car to the next level.
There is no shortage of unique builds at this event, but Kevin probably takes the cake. Kevin is a Daihatsu Hijet that has had a… well I a drivetrain swap. A drivetrain swap in a Daihatsu usually means putting a bike engine and gearbox in it but the boys from Nightride decided to let the whole bike, as it sits, power the old Daihatsu. Kevin is now powered by a Yamaha Fazer 600 that is mounted in the back of the kei van and with all of the doors of you can easily appreciate all of the fabrication that has been done to the car to make it all work.
Sticking with the theme of red cars with four-spoke wheels and red checkered floor mats we have this beautiful E30 that perfectly showcases how good a interior with color matched parts look with its floor mats, horn button and airfreshener.
With most EG and EK Civics starting to rust away it is rare to see clean examples like this one locally.
Some cars will for sure make you do a double take like the LTO kitted E36 och skateboard wheels or the Supra MK4 on 4-lug Nismo LMGT2’s. And yes, the LMGT2’s came in a 4-lug configuration in a very limited quantity.
The variety of cars is incredible and it’s very nice to see that no matter what car you look at the quality of that car is top notch within it’s category.
Speaking of top notch, I had the pleasure of chatting with @datsun_europe for a bit, the owner and builder of this custom Datsun 240z. He’s helped people from all over Europe get their hands on Datsuns for years and has put together a good amount of them for himself too, with this orange one being his latest creation, being completed just moments before the event.
No details have been left untouched, like the DTSN logo in the custom headrests on the reupholstered Recaro seats or the Honda S2000 mirrors from Evasive Motorsport. This build earned him a well deserved top 8 in the show overall.
As I said before, the pure variety of vehicles is crazy.
As a collector of Hot Wheels and someone who recently started building 1/24 scale models thees two sections of the event had me torn. While I personally could’ve spent a good amount of time in both booths I knew that my walled would weigh less and my luggage more if I did.
There is no shortage of street style at the Next Level events and while BMW’s are very common drift cars in Europe the support for Japanese cars outnumbered them this time around which is always fun to see, especially with the ever-rising “JDM-tax”.
The drifty section offered both hard solo runs and plenty of doorbashing tandems.
The overall vibe is immaculate and it is made even better with the sounds from a diverse quire of engines filling the air. Poetic, right?
A personal burnout from the Queen herself is always much appreciated!
I might seem odd to a lot of the world population, but it’s always exciting seeing an S13 coupé. Even though we have a good amount of S13’s in Sweden I can count the amount of coupés we have on one hand. And it’s always extra exciting seeing clean examples rather than fully gutted pro built ones.
The red and yellow flags waiving through the air marked the end of the Next Level event and Ultrace overall, which led a few drivers to celebrate the successful weekend with burning the last rubber from their tyres before packing up and heading home.
Tired after a hectic and eventful weekend I made one final walk around the event, taking every single last piece of it in. The music, the scent of burnt rubber, the energy, the people. What the guys from Ultrace have created is something everybody who getd the chance should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Until next time Poland. I’ll be back.
More Ultrace blog posts coming soon.
